1. Nature-Inspired Colour Palettes

The nature-inspired colour palettes are increasing in popularity and not just in the soft green tones, but more bravery will be seen in branching into other shades and colours!

  • Earthy Tones: Muted terracottas, ochres, and sage greens evoke a grounded, calming atmosphere. We had seen the terracottas and sage greens coming through in sofas, occasional chairs, bed linen, cushions and decor pieces in 2024 and these will continue in 2025 with slight variations of shade.
  • Residentially, we will see more rainforest greens which will connect us more with nature to bring a sense of calm and resilience. Paired with chocolate browns (not the dreaded mission brown from the 70’s but a deeper, richer brown) and the much-loved terracotta.
  • Commercially, the vibrant yet refined, citron-yellow will be included in accent doses to bring energy and freshness to interiors especially in upholstery. Chocolate browns and greeny-brown tones will be a powerful choice to give a sense of heritage, warmth and authenticity.
  • Mineral Blues and Greys: Reflecting stone and water, these shades bring serenity and elegance. Dusty blues exude a sense of timelessness and sophistication and compliments the richness of jewel colours like burgundy, deep mustard and emerald green.
  • Adding more energy in the choice of greys will be a priority as the pale greys we have grown accustomed to these past couple of years has become too plain and eventless. The new choices will be a much more refreshing and uplifting.
  • Pops of Warmth: Burgundy and deep mustard tones add a touch of richness, perfect for accent walls or soft furnishings. These will deepen in the cooler months for us and pairing with metallics will enhance their sophistication.

In Australia, these palettes resonate with our connection to the outdoors, blending seamlessly with coastal and bushland aesthetics.

2. Artisanal Patterns

Patterns in European design are moving towards a handcrafted, authentic feel:

  • Organic Motifs: Think botanical prints and abstract shapes that celebrate imperfection.
  • Geometric Revival: Soft, rounded geometry is replacing sharp angles and featuring circles, arches, and waves. We are already seeing this in the new building structures popping up around the coastline and main centres.
  • Tactile Textures: Layered patterns on textured surfaces, such as linen or raw plaster, add depth and character.

Patterns inspired by classical architecture, antique tapestries and motifs, and intricate patterns of traditional textiles will be introduced in a contemporary interpretation to give a sense of legacy and refinement.

Australian interiors are adopting these patterns in wallpapers, textiles, and tiles, creating spaces that feel both dynamic and comforting.

3. Curvaceous Shapes

The influence of the curved line is undeniable in 2025!

Curves is more feminine and brings softness to spaces, balancing the domination of the masculine influence we have had in recent times:

  • Rounded Furniture: Sofas, chairs, and tables with soft, rounded edges offer a sense of comfort and fluidity.
  • Arched Features: Doorways, mirrors, and cabinetry details echo the gentle arch, lending a touch of European elegance.
  • Sculptural Lighting: Lamps and chandeliers are becoming focal points with flowing, organic shapes.

4. Sustainability Meets Luxury

A shared value between Europe and Australia is the focus on sustainability. In 2025, this translates to:

  • Natural Materials: Stone, timber, and clay dominate the material palette.
  • Reclaimed and Upcycled Pieces: Furniture and decor with a history bring an eclectic taste to modern spaces.
  • Eco-Friendly Textiles: Wool, hemp, and organic cotton are used to create luxurious yet conscious designs.
